Jindal, Santorum to join statewide bus tour opposing Iowa Justice Wiggins - DesMoinesRegister.com (blog)

Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal and former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum will join a statewide bus tour next week as part of a campaign aimed at ousting Iowa Supreme Court Justice David Wiggins because of his support for a April 2009 court ruling that legalized same-sex marriage in Iowa.

The “No Wiggins Bus Tour” kicks off Monday at the Iowa Capitol, spending four days and covering more than 1,300 miles while visiting 17 Iowa towns.

Jindal will ride the bus on Wednesday when it has stops scheduled in in Mason City, Marshalltown, Fort Dodge and Carroll. Santorum, the winner of January’s Republican presidential caucuses in Iowa, will join the tour on Monday for stops in Des Moines, Pella and Ottumwa.

Santorum said in statement that the judiciary’s usurpation of authority in recent years is completely unacceptable.

. â€Å"It is obviously clear the people’s Constitution gives the judicial branch the least power, and yet these appointed judges continuously legislate from the bench whether it is gay marriage in Iowa, collective bargaining in Wisconsin, or resulting in the death of millions of lives caused by the opinion of Roe v. Wade,” Santorum said.

Jindal said in a press release that the election in November may be the most important election of our lifetimes.

“From the top of the ticket on down, our freedoms and values are at stake. It’s critical we do everything we can to encourage conservatives to go to the polls and vote to uphold our values, freedoms, and constitutional rights,” Jindal said.

The Iowans for Freedom bus tour is sponsored by CitizenLink, Patriot Voices, and The FAMiLY LEADER along with co-sponsors: National Organization for Marriage and CatholicVote.org.

The schedule includes:

Monday, Sept. 24: Des Moines, Pella, Ottumwa, Burlington, Muscatine

Tuesday, Sept. 25: Davenport, Cedar Rapids, Dubuque, Cedar Falls

Wednesday, Sept. 26: Mason City, Marshalltown, Ft. Dodge, Carroll

Thursday, Sept. 27: Council Bluffs, Sioux City, Spencer, Orange City
